OTCA Children’s Christmas

Her phone number is 371-2060 or email apkeefe@bellsouth.net. Please let Andrea know by Dec. 17 if you plan to attend (she will need to let Santa know how many gifts he needs to bring). Andrea said she has talked to Santa and he is practicing his Ho Ho Ho’s and is looking forward to seeing all the OTCA children at the party.
Welcome Newcomers
If you have just moved to Olde Towne please call Patricia Ashburner at 383-0632 and let her know you’re here, or stop by at our next association meeting. We’d love to meet you and welcome you to our community.
Drainage in Olde Towne
A major portion of the Olde Towne storm water drainage passes through a drain line that runs through a right of way between N. Olde Towne Wynd and S. Olde Towne Wynd along the East side of the park. This drain pipe has collapsed in several places stopping drainage. This results in a mosquito problem and flooding on N. Olde Towne Wynd. The flooding is a safety problem and will eventually cause damage to the road. There are several questions to be resolved including who owns the right of way and who is responsible for correcting the problem. When these questions have been answered, then solutions to the problem can be addressed and action taken. Belville and the Olde Towne Community Association are working on the problem.
Neighborhood Watch
Two detectives from the sheriff’s office attended the Olde Towne Community Association meeting Dec. 10. One of the most important things that the detectives continue to emphasis is call 911 when you see anything suspicious. They reviewed recommendations for neighborhood watch as well as some new sheriff’s department programs. One recommendation is to record the description, serial numbers, and value of items which are most likely to be stolen. They left forms to help record this information as well as information on preventing burglaries. The three D’s of burglary prevention are: deter, detect, and delay. There are many suggestions in the hand out that are easy to do to help prevent burglaries. If you would like a copy of these hand outs, call Stuart at 371-9555 or send an e-mail.
The sheriff’s office also has several new programs. One is
The Citizens Academy which was established to build a better understanding between Law Enforcement and those we serve, through a series of classroom presentations and community involvement. Class time features a general overview of current law enforcement issues, patrol procedures, criminal investigations and crime prevention. The academy is open to all persons over the age of nineteen and a half. Classes meet on Thursday evenings for ten weeks at Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office in the training room from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. For more information please call Lt. Scoggins at 910-253-2777.
The sheriff’s department is also working on establishing an alert system that would automatically notify residents of problems in their area either by cell phone or by e-mail. This would allow the sheriff to let neighbors know when something is going on in their neighborhood such as a burglary. Having neighbors alert to a problem will help the sheriff catch offenders.
If you have any information regarding suspicious activity in our neighborhood, please contact Det. Coring at 253-2540.
A reminder – do not leave valuables in your car. It is easy to break into your car and Christmas presents, wallets, purses, etc left on the seat are open invitations to break into your car.
