Olde Towne Crier May 2009
OTCA Meeting
June 10th, 2009
at 7 p.m.
773 Brunswick Place Truda & David Brown’s Home
We hope to see you there!
Please join us and participate in our efforts to improve our community and life in Olde Towne.
Membership Dues
May starts the new membership year for us, and we are hopeful that we can increase our membership in the OTCA this year. We would like to make significant improvements to the park and mall but need funds to accomplish these goals, to continue to maintain what we have, fund adult and children’s socials and publish the Crier. Dues are only $24 per year! We have appointed a new Membership Committee chair, Truda Brown. She will be actively recruiting new members and contacting some of you that have been members in prior years. We have attached a fact sheet regarding membership benefits and a sign up sheet to be submitted with your dues. Please support your association and pay your dues. Dues should be put in the OTCA mailbox at the entrance mall or given to any committee member.
Spring Yard Sale
Thank you to Carolyn Ferguson, Truda Brown and Bobbi Fitzpatrick for all their work on the yard sale. We had perfect, wonderful weather and a fun time. We had 21 sellers collected about $200 for the OTCA association. Thank you to all of you that participated and paid.
Welcome Newcomers
If you have just moved to Olde Towne, Jennifer Ferzola and Patricia Ashburner would love to welcome you to our community and help you get settled in. They have a wealth of information about our association and the local area. Jenn’s number is 914-263-3930. Patricia’s number is 383-0632. Patricia is planning a tea for new residents, perhaps Sept. 12.
Work Day in the Park
A park maintenance/clean up day has been scheduled for May 30th, at 9.am. Please join us.
ATV’s in Park
Please note that ATV’s are no longer allowed in the park. A new sign will be posted

Community Involvement
Sharon Collins, a resident of Highland Shores has contacted us regarding a new civic engagement group that has been recently formed. Northern Brunswick for Community Action (NBCA) was started by a group of residents who were looking for ways to contribute to the community. Their goal is to have a ‘champion’ from each of the subdivisions. Their current project is Stop Project Hunger in Brunswick County. Their goal: to collect 6,000 pounds of food and $800 to distribute through Brunswick Family Assistance on July 25. The next meeting is at the Highland Shores clubhouse on June 13 at 1:00 p.m. If you are interested, please contact Sharon at 910-371-6926.
Support “Put a STOP to Hunger in Brunswick County”
A few months ago a group of residents of Northern Brunswick County got together with a common purpose of finding opportunities to volunteer in our community. NBCA (Northern Brunswick for Community Action) resulted from that initial meeting. We met with Jayne Matthews, volunteer coordinator for Brunswick County who introduced us to Manna Ministries. We have selected STOP Hunger as our first community service project. Our goal is to collect 6,000 pounds of food and $800 in donations for a July 25 food distribution coordinated by Brunswick Family Assistance.
We would like to ask your help contributing food and any change you might have. Every coin can make a difference. Many of the needy include children who depend on federal school lunch programs that are not available in the summer months. Most needed items include:
Canned vegetables Peanut Butter
Canned meats or tuna Cereal
Canned soup, chili, stew Pasta
Canned fruits Rice
Our group can come by your home to pick up your donation. We are meeting again on Saturday, June 13 at 1:00 p.m. at the Highland Shores Clubhouse on Club Ct. Our volunteers can stop by your home to pick up the donation on that day. Please contact me at SCBelville@aol.com or 371-6926 if you can help.
We are also seeking volunteers to collect food at the Village Road Food Lion on Saturday, June 27. This will involve a two hour commitment on that day. The mission of our group is to improve our community by inspiring every citizen to engage in civic action. We invite you to join us!
