Olde Towne Crier November

Kids’ Christmas Party

We really need someone to organize and host the OTCA Kids’ Christmas party this year. Please let Stuart Smith know if you are interested. He will give you details about the budget etc. We have checked with Santa and he’s going to be here. We think he may come on the fire truck this year! Children and grandchildren of OTCA members will be invited – further details to follow next month.

Olde Towne Drainage

Mayor Batson attended our latest OTCA meeting and discussed the status of the Olde Towne drainage. Work has begun clearing the clogged storm water drains between the back of houses on Albemarle and the park. An engineering study confirmed this was the main cause of flooding in the area with a projected repair cost of $50,000. Ongoing county studies showed the stagnant water in clogged underground pipes, was a major source of mosquitoes. Belville considered assessing the property owners next to the ditch or assessing the Olde Towne Association. Neither owned the property. A second attorney confirmed the property was owned by a decertified LLC. The town had $30,000 in this year’s budget for repair, however, at one of the local mayors meetings Mayor Batson was told of a possible source of funding. Mayor Batson meets informally every couple of months with the mayors of Leland, Navassa, Northwest and Sandy Creek. Currently, the county is doing the drainage work without a charge to the town of the OT residents. They are using funding from a mosquitoes control grant. This project was possible because the drain was not on private property and not maintained by DOT. Belville residents must continue to maintain that portion of a shared ditch on their property.

Shrimparoo

We all enjoyed the OTCA ‘Shrimparoo’ event at the park. The shrimp, brats, and all the side dishes were delicious and the company was wonderful. We enjoyed the ambience and warmth from the wood fire. Thanks to Pat Ashburner for organizing and to everyone else who helped.

Next Meeting

The next OTCA meeting will be hosted by Mayor Jack Batson at the Belville Town hall. The meeting will be on December 8th at 7.p.m. Everyone is encouraged and welcome to attend.
