Olde Towne Crier April 2011
Household Cleanup
Brunswick County will have a cleanup, April 11 through April 16th. Residents can take household items to the landfill for FREE. You can dispose of all materials except regular household trash and land clearing. The landfill is at 172 Landfill Road NE, off Galloway Road.
Hazardous Chemicals
Household hazardous waste may be disposed of at Shallotte Middle School April 16 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Annual BBQ and Meeting
Our Olde Towne BBQ and meeting will be held April 30th in the Olde Towne Park. We will have a BBQ pig again this year. We will also have side dishes and hot dogs for the kids, and water/soda. We encourage you all to bring a side dish and BYOB. If you have a special signature dish, now is the time to show off and share with your neighbors. We will also have a 50/50 raffle as a fundraiser for the community. A sign up sheet is attached. We hope you will all attend. Drop your sign up in the OT mail box, or call Patricia and let her know you will be attending. We will be electing officers for the Olde Towne Community Association. We will also discuss transferring the park to Belville and vote on whether to move forward.
Children’s Easter PartyCheryl Moody will be organizing and hosting the children’s party. The party will be held in our OTCA park on April 17th at 12 noon. If you are interested in helping, would like your children or grandchildren to attend, or would like more information regarding the children’s Easter party, please contact Cheryl at 383-1316 or 512-5321. Please note this is a member’s only event.
Dues are Now Due
Just a reminder, our new year starts May 1st. Dues are $24 for the year. Dues contribute toward upkeep of the park and mall, printing of the Crier, and the adult socials and children’s parties. Please complete the enclosed information sheet and submit it along with your dues. If you would like to make an additional donation to go towards purchasing plants and landscaping materials for the mall, please include it with your check. Payment can be made to any committee member, at the annual BBQ, or be placed in the mail box at the mall entrance. Please support your community and pay your dues!
No Dumping Limbs in Park
Brunswick County informed us that it is illegal to move yard debris from one lot to another and then burn the debris. Therefore, we have stopped collecting limbs for burning.
Park Clean up
Our park cleanup was a great success. About twenty residents showed up to start cleaning up the park. Afterward we had hot dogs and soft drinks. Brunswick County has completed cleanup of the park. They removed the burn pile, smoothed of the area and planted grass.

Park Ballot
In January, the Olde Towne Community Association executive committee asked our residents if they were interesting in transferring our park to Belville. The primary reason for asking was that we need assistance maintaining the park.
Since asking for your input, several things have happened:
We asked the Town of Belville if they were interested in accepting the park at their February meeting. We have not heard an answer from Belville.
A number of residents volunteered to help in the park as well as in other ways.
We had a park cleanup. We had a good turn out, approximately 20 people showed up to help.
Three residents volunteered to be officers next year.
We received additional input, through emails and telephone calls.
In summary, the following reasons to keep the park were expressed:
Maintain control of the park
Noise and traffic will likely increase if Belville has it.
Increased use by non-residents
Liability risk is minimal
We would lose our burn pile
Most people would like a quiet park
Reasons for transferring the park to Belville
Responsibility to maintain the park would go to Belville
Belville has more resources – hopefully upgrades would be done to the park
Eliminiate liability risk
Some thought increase of park by non-residents was not likely
If you would like more information, please contact Stuart ssmith@cape-fear.net or come to the BBQ on April 30. At the BBQ, we will try to answer any questions and then vote on whether to ask Belville to take over the park or to keep the park. The members of the Olde Towne Community Association are the owners of the park. As such, we need your signature to insure that members only votes are counted. Members are those that have paid their 2010 and/or 2011 dues. One vote per household.
I am FOR transferring the Olde Towne Community Association park to Belville

Olde Towne Pig Pickin
Saturday – April 30 4:00 p.m.
The Olde Towne Community Association is hosting its Annual Pig Pickin social and meeting on April 30 at 4 p.m. in our beautiful community park. This is a family event for OTCA members. We are inviting non-members to join us to find out what our association is all about.
Bob Uzzel’s father will be cooking the pig. This will be an old fashioned pig pickin the way we did it many years ago. We will have delicious barbequed pork, and hush puppies. Soft drinks, cups, plates and utensils will be provided. We ask attendees to bring one of their specialties: a hors d'oeuvre, a side dish or a dessert. BYOB. You may bring some folding chairs. Children may wish to bring a lawn game or toy to play with in the park.
Our annual meeting will be held first and we will elect our new OTCA officers. We are excited about this event and are looking forward to seeing you. Come on out, reunite with old friends and meet some new ones. We hope to see you there.
Please contact us if you need any further information or have questions.
