Park Vandalism Update

Detective Coring attended the August OTCA meeting and updated us about the ongoing park vandalism investigation. He indicated he has some good leads that he's following and that he has the names of 4 teenagers that he is investigating. He has requested that sheriff patrols keep checking the area over weekends and during nighttime hours. He will keep us informed of any progress in this case.

Neighborhood Watch

Neighborhood Watch is based on this concept: When citizens take positive steps to secure their own property and neighbors learn how to report suspicious activity around their homes, burglary and related offenses decrease dramatically. Bill Miller and Deputy Clint Simpson of the Crime Prevention Unit attended our OTCA meeting and gave us information about the Community Watch program. They said the most important thing we can do to deter criminal activity in our neighborhood is to communicate with our neighbors and the crime prevention office. They suggested: (1) When walking the neighborhood take a pad and pencil with us to jot down anything we deem suspicious; jot down license plates; call 253-2788 (direct line to the crime prevention office) with any concerns no matter how small they may seem; (2) We need to be proactive; install outside lighting, motion lights or signs advertising the property is under surveillance, buy fake cameras, place security company stickers on windows; (3) Inform neighbors if we plan on going away, put timers on lights inside our home, stop newspapers and mail; (4) Use 911, which is available for any kind of concern, not just an emergency. For further information concerning Community Watch visit www.usaonwatch.org.

Yard Sale

Ray Edwards has volunteered to be our new Chairman for the Yard Sale that will be on September 27th. This is a great opportunity to clear out some household things you no longer need, clean out your closets of clothes you never wear. If you would like to participate in the yard sale, please contact Ray at 371-6604. The yard sale is a fund raiser for our community association so we hope you will all participate. OTCA will handle the advertising for this sale and it generally brings quite a number of shoppers to homes in our neighborhood.
