Olde Towne Resident Makes Kids Crooked Playhouses

Have you seen the cute little crooked playhouse that has become quite popular across the nation? It is a specially designed crooked playhouse main headquarters are in Windham, Maine with dealers across the nation. We have one of the dealers in our Olde Towne neighborhood. Actually, lives a handful of houses from me. Brad Fry 910-599-5040 or email crkdNCarolina@aol.com

I discovered it on one of my walks quite a bit ago and returned home to get my camera. It was absolutely adorable. It has been over a year since being able to walk, but slowly starting to amble around the block.

There is a pink one in a back yard on Olde Towne North. Would love to take a photo of, but won't invade their privacy. If anyone see's one and can take a photo, please forward it to me for posting here on the blog.

The photos posted in this write up are the ones I photographed on my walk that day.

Children’s Easter Party

Christy Kubes and Jenny Radford will be hosting the Easter party to be held on March 27th from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the Olde Towne Park. Hot dogs will be served and there will be plenty of eggs and Easter fun. If you would like to attend, or help out in any way, please contact Christy and let her know. Her phone number is 231-0918. Members only please!

If you have not paid your 2009 dues, the dues you pay will count for 2010.

Mall Beautification

Roger Lee our landscaper has done a wonderful job maintaining our mall. Roger has recommended that we add more pine straw and plant some annuals in the front. We also need to replace some plants that were destroyed during the cabling and piping projects. The cost for this is a significant portion of our budget. We are hopeful all Olde Towne residents will contribute to the mall beautification by paying their dues and making an additional donation if they are able. I’m sure you will all agree the having a beautiful entrance to our neighborhood is really important and it’s something we will enjoy throughout the year.

Low Income Housing

A public meeting to discuss details of the proposed plan to develop multifamily affordable rental housing units on Chappell Loop Road has been scheduled for March 18, 2010 at 6-7:15 pm at Belville Elementary School, in the cafeteria. If you are interested or concerned regarding this proposed development, we urge you to attend this informational meeting.

Annual BBQ and Meeting

We will be having a BBQ pig again at our annual meeting and BBQ on April 24th in the OT Park. We will have a 50/50 raffle. If you would like to help with the BBQ and have any suggestions for additional activities, please contact Patricia. Pat’s phone number is 383-0632. Please reserve the date. A sign up sheet will be included with April’s newsletter. Election of officer’s will also be made at this time. If you are interested in serving, please let Stuart know. We hope you will all attend.

Community Watch

There have been a series of break-ins to cars in Leland. Tools were stolen from 10101 S. Olde Towne Wynd. The best deterrent to criminals is a dog and a nosey neighbor. Keep tools or any other valuables out of sight. Report any suspicious activity to 911.

Household Cleanup

Brunswick County will have a cleanup week April 12 – 15 where residents can take household items to the county landfill for free. Hazardous waste can be disposed of at Wal-Mart in Shallotte April 17th.

Letter to the Editor

These are observations on life in Olde Towne some of our new residents perhaps have not yet realized:

Neighbors contribute to the quality of our environment by picking up windblown papers and objects scattered around our streets.

We have our own neighborhood park. It is not a public park; it is a neighborhood park.

There is a debris pile in the park for community use, to which we may add trimmings and clippings from our home gardens. Please remove soil from your debris before depositing it on the pile. Dirt doesn’t burn well.

Volunteer committee members maintain our park and mall. This committee burns debris as it accumulates. Please be careful to deposit only debris that can be burned. Use judgment as you would use in your own garden.

Belville ordinances are guidelines for the park and mall as well as our homes. We are all responsible for the quality of life in our community.

Committee members donate personal time and effort to maintain our community facilities. Do your share.

People who visit from surrounding developments are our neighbors and are welcomed as such. We expect the same courtesies from them as we extend to them as neighbors.

Mothers who take children to the park will find seating for supervision of your children in the play areas. Boy Scouts from Olde Towne built play equipment and seating in these areas. Thank you, Boy Scouts.
